Fenced In?

A divided Stratford city council approved a staff recommendation to accept a bid to install a permanent perimeter fence around the former GTR repair shops last Monday night.

The permanent fencing will cost $ 118 000, $12 000 more than the bid for a temporary fence. Work on the fencing is expected to begin within a few weeks.

A separate tender to secure loose roofing material on the building will come to council soon.

Good news for supporters of the GTR Shops!

On June 8, 2015, several motions passed at Stratford City Council were a victory for those working to save the GTR shops for adaptive re-use.

A motion was passed to send out a Request for Proposal for the adaptive re-use of the building before any demolition takes place thus providing a developer with options.

75 000 sq. ft. of the building must, however, be retained in any development proposal.
